Wild rivers, epic mountains, pristine landscapes, characterful towns and friendly locals. Whether you’re looking for adventure, nature, bush-culture or simply to rest and relax, the Upper Murray is a whole world waiting to be discovered.

Mount Elliot is at the heart of the adventure scene; a popular destination for paragliding, hang gliding four-wheel driving… and the most ‘die-hard’ of gravel riders and trail runners.  Its network of ridgetop trails mark the way for Run Upper Murray.

Throw a line in. Bait fishing, fly fishing, trawling or tickling, the Upper Murray is a secret fishing paradise. So, find your perfect spot under the gums, cast a line, and let the magic of the Murray River do its thing. Silver perch, rainbow trout, redfin, and, of course, Murray cod swim the river in significant numbers. And for lake lovers, there’s also Khancoban Pondage, a 3 km lake with views of the Snowy Mountains.  Find out when and where.

Home to the purest of waters. Whether you want to brave the rapids with some white-water rafting, have a lark with some river tubing, or you simply want to enjoy more tranquil waters by kayak, canoe or paddle board, The Upper Murray has heaps of watery fun for all ages, and all levels of adrenaline seeker.

Drive… without the crowds. Coming from the west?  Be sure to come or leave via the Great River Road.  Hugging the Upper branch of the majestic Murray River, this stunning touring route between Khancoban and Bellbridge meanders straight past Mount Elliot (home to Run Upper Murray).  With stunning views across to the Snowy Mountains, eight magnificent large sculptures, and pristine regional, state and national parks, it is a must do! See more here.

Hike the undiscovered.  If you’ve still got some ‘go’ in your legs, the Upper Murray features a wide range of walking tracks, nature trails, and lookouts just waiting to be discovered.  Many of the region’s tracks are suitable for families and boast spectacular views and an abundance of flora and fauna.  Find a walk that’s right for you.

Four-wheel drive in the foot steps of the Man from Snowy River.  If you’re an avid 4WD enthusiast you’ll love the Upper Murray, which offers some of the most diverse and unforgettable landscapes in Australia. Discover stunning campsites accessible only by 4WD, enjoy the Geehi Huts loop with its two river crossings, or traverse the very tricky Davies Plain Drive – not for the inexperienced. You can also check out the Burrowa-Pine Mountain National Park, which stretches between Walwa Creek in the northwest and Cudgewa Creek in the southeast, the area is a four-wheel driver’s playground with extensive tracks leading to rugged mountain peaks and rocky outcrops.  And of course you may wish to transition from two feet to four-wheels to explore the magnificent Mount Elliot area.  Download a copy of the 4WD brochure.

Experience authentic country hospitality.  Stay, rest and recuperate after your trail run.  A full list of Upper Murray accommodation options can be obtained from the Corryong Visitor Information Centre.
